Carrie Trailer Unleashes Stephen Kings Horror Classic on Prime Video With a Terrifying New Twist

Prime Video has unveiled the main official trailer for Carrie, a new horror miniseries based on Stephen King’s iconic 1974 novel. Created by acclaimed genre filmmaker Mike Flanagan, the series takes audiences back into the terrifying world of Carrie White, the painfully shy teenager whose extraordinary telekinetic abilities begin to emerge as her already difficult life spirals out of control. The trailer promises a darker, more contemporary take on the familiar story, bringing teenage cruelty, social media and psychological horror into the mix.

Newcomer Summer H. Howell takes on the challenging role of Carrie, a misfit who has spent most of her life isolated inside her home under the watchful eye of her fiercely protective mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan. Carrie’s sheltered existence begins to collapse after the sudden death of her father forces her into the unforgiving world of public high school. What follows is a collision of adolescence, bullying and fear, as Carrie struggles to understand both the people around her and the strange power awakening inside her.

This version of Carrie also gives the story a distinctly modern edge. The trailer introduces the idea of a viral bullying scandal and the relentless cruelty of social media, showing how humiliation can spread far beyond the school corridors. For a story originally published more than five decades ago, those themes feel surprisingly relevant. Flanagan appears to be using King's central idea of an outsider pushed to the brink while exploring how today's digital world can amplify teenage cruelty and turn private pain into public spectacle.

The cast surrounding Howell is equally intriguing, with Samantha Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard joining the series. Sloyan's Margaret is expected to be particularly important to the story, as Carrie's complicated relationship with her mother has always been one of the emotional foundations of the novel. Lillard's presence also adds another familiar face for horror fans, making the ensemble an appealing combination of established performers and rising talent.

Mike Flanagan serves as the show's creator, showrunner and director, while also writing the adaptation alongside the creative team. Given his reputation for character-driven horror, his involvement makes this more than another straightforward remake. Flanagan has built a career around finding emotional weight beneath supernatural scares, and Carrie gives him material that naturally fits that approach. Hiromi Kamata is also credited as a director on the miniseries, adding another creative voice to King's latest journey onto the screen.

Arriving on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, Carrie faces the difficult task of revisiting one of horror's most recognisable stories while giving longtime fans a reason to watch again. The trailer suggests that this isn't simply about telekinesis or revenge; underneath the horror is a story about loneliness, adolescence, abuse, identity and what can happen when someone is pushed too far. With Flanagan behind the project and a new Carrie at its centre, this latest adaptation could turn Stephen King's classic nightmare into something frighteningly relevant for a new generation.
